LOL It was probably that JP guy who made that up. I'm surprised he didn't say it was going to be a Macy's. He's obsessed with Macy's coming to Brownsville. No it was the RaulRuiz guy I remember now! That guy was a joke too. Always promising to setup meetings with city commissioners because his dad knew one or two - so he'd request questions from the forum to take to his "meetings" that never materialized. Is he not around the other forum anymore? He was another PITA like JP.

JCPenny not far from bankruptcy. Under $1 for stock? wow. JCPenney stock falls below $1 for the first time everNew York (CNN Business)As the Dow posted its biggest daily point gain ever, JCPenney's stock fell below $1 for the first time since it started trading in 1929. That's pretty much everything you need to know about the state of JCPenney (JCP). The 110-year old company hasn't been profitable since 2010 and its prospects are bleak. JCPenney is $4 billion in debt with a junk credit rating, a sinking cash hoard and no sign of a turnaround. Shares traded at around $1.01 on Thursday. With few shoppers coming to stores, JCPenney faces inventory and supply chain struggles and no clear marketing plan or strategy. The company has been forced to offer steep discounts on clothing to clear its massive inventory glut. www.cnn.com/2018/12/26/investing/jcpenney-stock/index.html

Harlingen and Brownsville... get ready to possibly lose another anchor at your malls. JCPenney is also just about bankrupt!
Sears, Kmart could be liquidated with no bid to save 2 retail iconsThe clock appears to be ticking for one of America's venerable retail companies. Sears, the 125-year-old iconic department store known for its popular Christmas shopping catalog and its equally iconic Kmart chain, could be down to the final hours, CNBC reported Thursday afternoon. With more than 68,000 workers between the two brands, Sears Holdings' last chance at survival comes down to a possible $4.6 billion proposal by Chairman Eddie Lampert. Lampert has a deadline of 4 p.m. Dec. 28 to submit a bid. As of Thursday afternoon, Lampert had not yet submitted a bid and it also was unclear whether he had lined up funding to make a bid, CNBC reported. Lampert, who seeks to rescue the company from bankruptcy through his ESL Investments hedge fund, is said to be the only party considering a bid for one of America's most iconic mall anchors. If Lampert does not make a bid, the two brands would face liquidation — a process that would take weeks based on bankruptcy court guidelines. www.mysanantonio.com/news/article/Sears-Kmart-could-be-liquidated-with-no-bid-to-13494172.php?utm_campaign=facebook&fbclid=IwAR2S1Bl0Fz0EzCGMeVvhXcBxD-D24c41hu3BUZ06DP5KI3N8u7XRKBxKD2U

Sears can go. Haven't shopped there in years. JCP, what a tragedy. Just went yesterday to the men's dept. and the shirts were littered on tables instead of in shevles they way they used to be. Thought the store didn't look to bad, it's still not the same from 10 years ago. My wife says the quality has gone done a lot so she doesn't shop there anymore. Too bad...

Last time I went to JCPenney, it wasn't that bad. I wondered to myself why i didn't go there anymore. The one in Edinburg is really nice, spacious and clean. The La Plaza Mall one is awful and jam-packed with clothes, you can barely walk.

Who didn't see this coming decades ago? RIP Sears. What's worse is that now Valle Vista Mall and Brownsville will have a huge empty Anchor Spot at their mall sitting empty. Redevelopment a'la La Plaza Mall probably won't happen because it's been really difficult to even fill the empty expansion at one of the top malls in the U.S. (La Plaza) - still has many empty storefronts in the expansion, it would be even more difficult for Harlingen and Brownsville.

The Sears in Harlingen closed two days ago :/ Sears in Brownsville will probably close down by the end of the year (if not sooner) Oh here's an article I just found: "Sears reaches 11th hour deal" www.cnn.com/2019/01/08/business/sears-future-bankruptcy-delay/index.html (either way this is very much only a temporary thing and it will face its demise sooner or later)
