On the heels of Frontier's Harlingen-Las Vegas announcement last week.
Two interesting points about this route: - Harlingen-Orlando will be year-round, whereas McAllen-Orlando is seasonal.
- Frontier's route will use THE Orlando airport: MCO (McAllen-Orlando on Allegiant uses Orlando/Sanford [SFB], which is further out from the city/Disney World)

For fun, here is how the Valley airports stack up against each other visually in terms of routes:
BRO:
MFE:
HRL:

Again, stupid airports duplicating efforts. we already have flights to Orlando in the RGV. get us to NYC. get us to SF. get us to Chicago. not the same old same old.

I may be wrong, but HRL does not fly to AUS anymore.

The Valley has a bottomless supply of passengers to a limited number of places, such as Dallas and Houston. Orlando and Las Vegas are possibly another two. A lot of passengers from the Valley use HRL to get to MCO and LAS, despite Allegiant's nonstop MFE-SFB and MFE-LAS routes. In fact, both Orlando and Las Vegas are two of HRL's top unserved markets in terms of PDEW.
Further, MFE doesn't "own" any of these routes, in the same way HRL and BRO don't "own" their respective routes. Allegiant and Frontier, like other airlines, compete on dozens and dozens of routes outside the Valley--so this was inevitable. Ultimately, competition will help lower fares at both MFE and HRL. You can see this at HRL where UA and WN compete to Houston, WN and AA compete to Dallas, and SY and DL compete to Minneapolis (when DL resumes): One airline has a sale, the other airline matches--this is one out of several reasons why HRL has lower fares than both MFE and BRO.
Finally, there are routes at HRL that are not found at MFE and BRO, including ORD, DEN, AUS, and MSP. Although all three Valley airports have service to DFW and IAH, HRL is the only one that has additional services to DAL and HOU.

show me where i said those routes belong to McAllen? ALSO, show me where i said they weren't successful routes? my complaint is that they all need to quit duplicating the same flights we already have. who cares if the price is higher or lower? we have the option to fly locally instead of having to go to Houston or ?? for those flights. dividing up the passengers just makes the flights unprofitable because they're half empty... and we lose the route!! then guess what? we're back to houston and dallas as our only flights out of the RGV to connect elsewhere. we're not at a place where we should be competing, even internally with flights at the same airports. we should be complementing - say VIA for leisure to SPI, MFE for business (maquiladoras) and BRO for SPaceX / Port.

Deleting my responses again, eh?
Delete all you want. Doesn't change that HRL got MCO and LAS.
Are you arguing with yourself? LOL
