I'm not 100% against the merger but there must be constraints and transparency over the division of money. If the upper valley can prove that everyone will have a larger share than they are currently getting, have equal rights on the board, then it would be worth the effort to merge. But until meeting happen, guess we don't have much to talk about here...

But until meeting happen, guess we don't have much to talk about here... Why do you assume that Hidalgo County is going to try to screw over Cameron County? Because it's a bigger county? And yet again, if they won't come to the table to discuss the minutia.... You all always bring up UTRGV as an example but that was just in the last few years, this merger or the MPOs has been talked about for decades. And even then the creation of UTRGV wasn't up to Hidalgo County, it was up to UT leaders, not UTPA leaders or UTB leaders. I don't remember either campus having a say in the matter. UT decided to merge the campuses when they saw it wasn't worthwhile for UT to have 2 smaller campuses here with little funding. UT has since decided to spend more at the campus that has double + the students first, but is still spending money in Brownsville as well. For all we know, it's here first, then over there next. We don't know what their plans are. Becoming UTRGV gave us way more money from the oil fund to split. And from what I've seen so far, there has been way more money invested in both counties than before as split campuses.

I agree with minion for the reasons he stated above. We should merge the MPOs. We need to be united as a region like all the other top 5Cities are

Well, we only heard from the upper valley saying it was a done deal but the articel didn't interview the CC County Judge or the city mayors of the LRGV. I think the upper valley is just hyping things up but I don't think that the lower valley is 100% on board...

I think the upper valley is just hyping things up but I don't think that the lower valley is 100% on board... I don't think you read the entire article. There's a Cameron County Perspective towards the bottom. Cameron County Perspective
Pete Sepulveda, executive director of Cameron County Regional Mobility Authority, is a big supporter of the Valley’s three MPOs merging. In an exclusive interview with the Rio Grande Guardian, Sepulveda went into great detail on why one regional MPO was needed.
“We really need to have one voice going to TxDOT. Historically, there was one discretionary fund we could not tap into. If we have one MPO for the whole Valley, we can access it and it is worth over $100 million,” Sepulveda said.“We have had this conversation again and again. Pushing and pulling. We have had TxDOT discuss it with each MPO in the Valley. But I think, finally, we have gotten over the hump. There are ongoing conversations which seem to point to a merger taking place by the end of the year,” Hinojosa said.

Yes, I did read that but I said that none of city mayors or CC judge were interviewed. I would think that Sepulveda would need the authority of CC commission before creating an MOU or merger with the upper valley. SO as it stands, we only got one person's view but not from the main voices that would give approval to the merger...

When you have the Governor's office, a State Senator, TxDOT for the RGV, Hidalgo County's MPO leader and Cameron County's MPO leader all for a merger, it's pretty safe to say that there's more likely a done deal, than not. If all the little cities, towns, around Austin, Houston, San Antonio and even big Ft Worth with Dallas are able to agree to merge into one MPO for more money, why can't we? They've all been able to iron out the details for fairness, again, why can't we?

Just do it already! $150 million is a lot of money! We need every penny. Those of you that aren't living in the RGV anymore don't know how awful the traffic is here.
