PROPOSED BROWNSVILLE LNG PLANT ANNOUNCES FIRST CUSTOMER
It has yet to get a federal operating permit, but Houston-based Next Decade already has its first customer for its proposed Rio Grande LNG export terminal at the Port of Brownsville. The Houston Chronicle reports that Next Decade has secured a 20-year sale and purchase agreement with the LNG division of oil giant Shell. Under the agreement, Shell will buy 2 million metric tons of LNG a year. Meanwhile, a decision on awarding a federal permit for the Rio Grande LNG terminal is expected in July. But it and two other proposed LNG facilities along the Brownsville Ship Channel face stiff opposition from a coalition of environmentalists, shrimpers, and fishermen. Next Decade's proposed $15 billion LNG export terminal would be the largest of the three proposed plants.

You know the powers that be don't care about the environment, so I'd say they're all a done deal. Damn.

www.bizjournals.com/sanantonio/news/2019/11/21/controversial-brownsville-lng-projects-receive.html"Three liquefied natural gas terminals proposed at the Port of Brownsville received federal permitting Thursday." Not completely in the clear yet, per the article: "Port Isabel, the small gated community of Long Island Village, and a community group have been given permission to challenge Texas LNG's state permit at an administrative hearing. A decision is expected in February. Meanwhile, Annova is awaiting its state permit, and NextDecade (Nasdaq: NEXT) is facing a federal lawsuit opposing its state permit, which was awarded in December without a contested case hearing."

"The executive director of Workforce Solutions Cameron admits he is worried he may not be able to produce enough skilled construction workers for the three LNG facilities that may be built at the Port of Brownsville." riograndeguardian.com/hobbs-im-worried-we-may-not-have-enough-workers-for-lng/This was an interesting quote: "I keep telling the LNGs, until you come and drop that carrot and say I am going to hire 500 welders at $25 an hour, they are not going to get off their butts and go to school and get the training to get the jobs.” "

I hope this keeps them out of the area. SPI and the wetlands are too important to the economy of Cameron County to have the LNG plants ruin it for a select few and the almighty dollar.
