I find it silly that some of the Brownsville folks are salivating over a rumored Macy's development along an abandoned railway. Macy's shut down 100 of their stores this year alone. Why would they want to build in a smallish market? McAllen's store does well because of the Monterrey shoppers with money, not because of Reynosa for the most part. Matamoros doesn't have the same money. Good luck to them though! I saw that over the weekend on the Cameron forum. Sometimes that one guy takes it way too far so I stay out. They've got big dreams over there.

This Macy's is probably going to be one of those "backstage" Macy's. They opened up 7 free standing stores this year and expect to open more in 2018. It does make a lot of sense for this area. Macy's Backstage usually opens up in empty big box stores or sometimes even within their own Macy's stores. They don't usually build. The Brownsville development would be a new build, were it to come. Backstage is basically a glorified Ross. Looks just as awful in pics (google it).

That would be something, wouldn't it? Their marketing brochure says one of the reasons for locating where they did was because of the Mexican Shoppers. Little do they know, we have a huge chunk of those billions they spend right here in the RGV.

Saw on the Anonymous RGV page that the Shoppes in Edinburg are suing the city of Edinburg for trying to stifle their development plans with more stringent rules and laws that aren't being pushed on anyone else. Edinburg leaders need to get over themselves already. They're running off potentional investors and pissing off current developers.
