I always forget about San Benito. I hope this actually happens for them. They need a big win!

This sounds like something along the lines of a Great Wolf Lodge or (my dream of) a Kalahari Resort (with the addition of the sports stadium, whatever sport it might be for). If this project can get through and proceed, it would be amazing for San Benito!

Gonna be honest here. I'm pretty sure this is going to be another dead project. Everything about it seems off.

I was thinking along the same lines..... kind of like a KAMEL project that is a big pie in the sky type of project that comes on with a big splash and just dies a slow death. Who in their right mind would build a waterpark with SPI and Schlitterbahn so close by? Look at the failure that was SuperSplash in Edinburg! HELLO People?! San Benito is too small to support a hotel/convention center type of attraction. I had no idea they were under 25,000 people. Wow. Even San Juan is close to 40,000 peeps!

I'm guessing nothing ever happened with this project?

That's way too much money for San Benito.... McAllen's was a 1/4 of that!

That's way too much money for San Benito.... McAllen's was a 1/4 of that! I think that's it the combined cost of all the other facilities being included in the project and not just a convention center space and hotel. Maybe also stuff like dredging for the lake (which looks much bigger than the one in front of the MCC), trying to court new names in the area for it (hotel, retail, restaurants, etc) and extra utilities are ballooning up the costs. "...a crystal lagoon, a visitors and special events center that will utilize banquet venues and a performance hall or pavilion. Additional aspects of the project will include an interactive education venue, restaurants and retail space, athletic and entertainment-related facilities, green space and professional office space." I'd say that since this is just part of a larger overall project that maybe the costs are justified, but that's just me.
