I looked at the most recent Census data, and this is what I found: Below is the Link to the Census Bureau. Please copy and paste the whole URL address. www.census.gov/quickfacts/fact/table/brownsvillecitytexas,harlingencitytexas,missioncitytexas,mcallencitytexas,edinburgcitytexas,US/PST045219 Looks to me that Edinburg will make it to 100K. What does this mean to the city of Edinburg? Brownsville falls short by about 17K from 200K. Harlingen is lagging from 64k to 65k, Why?? Your thoughts?? Attachments:

The official US Census will be released later this year. If Edinburg reaches 100k this will extend Edinburg's ETJ from 3 1/2 to 5 miles. Will McAllen finally be land locked from expanding? Will this help Edinburg become a larger city than McAllen as far as land, and later even in population? I found the following information: How much territory is encompassed in a city’s ETJ? The extent of ETJ is generally dependent on the number of city inhabitants. With some exceptions, state law provides that: • in a city with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants, the ETJ is within one-half mile of the corporate boundaries • in a city with 5,000 to 24,999 inhabitants, the ETJ is within one mile of the corporate boundaries • in a city with 25,000 to 49,999 inhabitants, the ETJ is within two miles of the corporate boundaries • in a city with 50,000 to 99,999 inhabitants, the ETJ is within 3-1/2 miles of the corporate boundaries • in a city with 100,000 or more inhabitants, the ETJ is within 5 miles of the corporate boundariesTEX. City of Edinburg undergoing development boom
The city of Edinburg is experiencing a big construction boom, according to Mayor Ramiro Garza Jr. Garza said there are currently $100 million worth of improvements taking place throughout the city. “It’s the first quarter to have over $100 million in construction activity compared to $38 million a year ago, the first quarter is just tremendous,” Garza said. The infrastructure work includes roadwork and the expansion of the water treatment plant. According to Shavi Mahtani, president of Domain Development, the city has qualities people look for. “The stadium, the parks — the number of parks that they have now. and they do have a lot of great real estate right off the expressway,” Mahtani said. Domain Development is building six residential and commercial properties in Edinburg. Mahtani said Watch the video for the full story. www.krgv.com/news/city-of-edinburg-undergoing-development-boom/

Being born in McAllen and residing in McAllen . Much love and support for the city of McAllen, I believe in the next decade or so Edinburg will surpass McAllen and be the County's largest city . I totally agree with you. McAllen is pretty much land-locked everywhere except a tiny sliver to the Northwest. Edinburg is free to annex pretty far north. Unless McAllen starts growing UP into multi story apartment buildings, it's going to be in shrink mode as the population ages.
