Edinburg held their State of the City this morning at Bert Ogden Arena. (Didn't they just have one in April?) Nothing new was announced. Just the usual trumpeting of the same things they're taking credit for... and those coming businesses we already know about (hotels, McAlisters, etc.). You can watch it on their facebook page: www.facebook.com/CityOfEdinburgGovernment/videos/452960645229378/

(From Facebook group.)
Edinburg State of the City. Transcript of Molina's Speech!
Thank you for all coming out to this State of the City Address. I wanted to talk to you about the future of Edinburg.
The city is broke!
But I was able to get many kickbacks on contracts and projects through the city. I don’t know how long I will be here, because I understand arrests for voter fraud are right around the corner.
I want to come clean and tell you all that I cheated. I want to apologize for some of you getting involved in my scheme, but I really thought we were going to get away with it.
I mean, we have been doing this for several years now and I really don’t know how we got caught.
I also want to say that I really don’t know what I’m doing as mayor. I have been mayor for almost a year and I have accomplished nothing. I changed the city logo and that's basically it. I recently took a trip to Panama and I did discuss future projects with developers i can trust.
We really need that bond money, because the city is broke and I need to continue to make money before I go to jail. I need to leave money for my kids and family.
Want to give a shout out to my brother from another mother, David Torres. Bro! Where are you? Bro! We almost got away with it.
I will continue to be your mayor until I am arrested. My door will always be open, along with my wallet. If any of you want contracts with the city, just bring us the cash and we will put you on the next agenda.
To the haters! Haters will always hate! I was elected by cheating and some of you are pissed off because of it!
Enjoy the refreshments while they last! The caterer actually took the city credit card as a form of payment. Everyone else wanted cash, something we dont have!
I love Edddddinburg!!!

The previous mayor was about to build a huge i'm a pendejo special needs park. One of the biggest in the state, but molina ended up scrapping that and put 1 special needs swing in every park and he's listing that as an accomplishment. This guy really thinks we're idiots. Whoever wrote this is right. All this guy has done is change the logo, put up billboards, and make customized shirts that have their position on them. The whole Torres family is shady as hell. Their son went to jail for a bit for stealing a boat. I went to school with him. He was a POS then too.

I heard one of the new parks they're building is very close to where Molina lives or owns property in NE Edinburg! And what the ?? with naming a park after the Bert Ogden lady Vackar? All that's telling the people of Edinburg is that you have to be wealthy and connected in order to be honored by the city now. Including Alonzo Cantu in the opening of the State of the City was a big finger to all the haters too! Mayor doesn't care about anyone but himself. And I can't stand when someone says "EdinGburg" THERE'S NO "G" IN THE MIDDLE OF EDINBURG!!! I hate it! lol

The only thing separating the park, his house and his apartments(where they found an illegal stash house) is a piece of land probably around 300 feet wide. I know that was a wtf moment. I have nothing against Janet or Robert but these rich people don't need any more help in naming things after themselves.

Not quite a State of the City but, it may as well be. Anyone know about the NEW projects he's talking about? EDINBURG, RGV – With his first year under his belt as executive director of Edinburg Economic Development Corporation, Joey Treviño says he can look back with a lot of pride at his accomplishments over the past 12 months However, there is not too much time to reminisce, he said, because a lot of exciting developments are just around the corner. "Edinburg has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the Rio Grande Valley and our retail sales are up. That means people are working and people are buying things. We are real excited about that,” Treviño said. Treviño gave an exclusive interview to the Rio Grande Guardian and RGV Public Radio 88FM at a recent check presentation ceremony at South Texas College’s Pecan Campus in McAllen. STC will use a $655,153 grant provided by Texas Workforce Commission to provide custom training 1,167 new and incumbent workers in the healthcare and social assistance industry. The training will take place to assist a healthcare consortium that includes Edinburg Regional Medical Center and Edinburg Children’s Hospital. “We are continuing to work with the Texas Workforce Commission, South Texas College, and UT-Rio Grande Valley on some other projects we want to bring into Edinburg. We are real excited,” Treviño said. On the retail front, expect to see some new stores opening soon, Treviño said.
“Our retail portion is expanding. In March, Walk-On’s Bistreaux & Bar should be opening. So, if New Orleans Saints win the Super Bowl, Drew Brees will likely be down here!” (WRONG, THEY LOST ALREADY) Brees, an NFL star and Texas native, owns Walk-Ons. “Edinburg EDC is proud to welcome Walk-On’s to our community. This will definitely be a new and exciting addition to the the city and we look forward to a great partnership and to the job opportunities this will create for our local economy,” Treviño said. Also on the retail and accommodation front, Treviño said: “Edinburg has a couple of new hotels coming in and some new retail shopping centers coming in, so we are real excited about it.”
Asked about speculation that The Shoppes at Rio Grande Valley is set for expansion, Treviño said: “Nothing has been announced yet but we have been working closely with the developers on that. Not just The Shoppes but the whole area. We just completed our retail study with the Canvas Group and we have got some really good numbers. We have got some good sources we are going to start talking to or have started talking to. In the near future we are going to have some new companies coming in, in retail businesses.”
One of the key developments in Edinburg over the past year has been the opening of the Bert Ogden Arena next to I-69 Central. Treviño said the arena is helping to make Edinburg a destination city, just as many economic development leaders predicted. riograndeguardian.com/trevino-edinburg-is-open-for-business/

Other than that I'm a little clueless at the moment about the rest.
