BROWNSVILLE, Texas – Brownsville leaders do not yet know how big an economic impact the Games of Texas will have on the city this weekend. What they do know is that 20,000 visitors from across the state will converge on the city. The surge is so great that the city’s hotels are full and Harlingen and South Padre Island are having to help with the overspill. “We have about 6,000 athletes that have signed up to register to compete in 12 different sports,” said Helen Ramirez, Brownsville’s city manager. “About 20,000 people are coming from around Texas to Brownsville. We’ve had to secure thousands of hotel beds.” The 2023 Summer Games – Games of Texas takes place between July 27 and July 30. The 2024 version is also slated to be held in Brownsville.

Why is this the first I hear of it? It should be all over the news and radio. We'll be having MXLAN this weekend. I guess that's why we only hear about MXLAN over here.

How'd it go for Brownsville? Not sure. Haven't heard or seen actual numbers yet. I did see people from out of town but didn't go to the games.

Lol. Honestly, all restaurants look jammed pack everyday in brownsville Really? Then why aren't there more? They're comin' but too slowly. Brownsville had a really bad permitting process that has finally been improved a lot but I think there's still room for improvement. Last year I opened an academy in downtown and the permitting was the worst process imaginable that costs you time and money. I've heard it is easier to open a business in Harlingen than here. Go figure why we don't have more...
