They also got rid of our dollar theater at Main Place. Slapped on a coat of paint and it’s now a full price theater again, albeit about 30 years old. .

Lol. I think Dave & Busters or similar can find another location. That location isn't good for them anyways. Blocked by the Motel 6 and other buildings fronting the expressway. If they really want to build here they will. I'm sure they would build at the Madeira location as more central to Harlingen, San Benito and Brownsville. But I am curious then what that old Cinemark 10 location would be? Cinemark is trying really hard to monopolize Brownsville but eventually they will lose out.

Yeah I agree. I wouldn’t want D&B to open up there, unless Kimko completes the development of North Towne Plaza (Lowes-anchored site). If anything D&B would take up the former Bealls location at Sunrise Mall, which has been empty ever since Main Event opened up wiping out any customers that Extreme Jump Adventure Park would’ve had. Coincidentally that space has not been advertised for lease on the CBL web site or any other commercial real estate web site ever since Extreme Jump closed. Since the southern end of Sunrise Mall has been completely redeveloped with a Dick’s Sporting Goods, Tru-Fit Gym, Parry’s Pizzeria $ Tap House, Main Event, and a Bubba’s 33, hopefully CBL has plans to expand the mall creating a new corridor lined with shops on either side (through the former Bealls space) leading to a new section of the Mall. Any guesses why CBL would just let that 40,000 sq. ft. Space sit there without advertising it? I do remember the city had plans to offer CBL incentives to expand the mall.

I still don't know how Carmike/AMC got in to Edinburg years ago. Before At Home & Top Golf took that land, it was announced as being a LOOK Theater / Entertainment Center - Think Main Event /IMAX/ Alamo Drafthouse / Dave & Busters all in one. It was new concept that was planned but not finalized - Cinemark got wind of it and all of a sudden, they're buying up land north of El Centro to rebuild the Cinemark 8 to the glorious XD theater. Then just like that, LOOK was gone. Cinemark is the HEB of theaters in the RGV lol.

Remember Dave & Buster’s acquired Main Event last year. According to city manager Helen Ramirez the Main Event in Brownsville generates more revenue than the one in Pharr, Austin, and both locations in San Antonio - If that’s true, D&B leadership sees the #s, it’s inevitable they come to Cameron County, albeit one of the newer format scaled down versions like the one at Las Palmeras Mall in Corpus Christi. With the lack of entertainment options in the lower valley I don’t doubt Helen’s claim.

I could see that when it first opened, like all new places that everyone swarms to, but once the new has worn off, is it still on top?

Dave & Buster’s just announced a 21,000 sq. ft. location for Killeen………. That’s right I said Killeen, Texas. It’s just a matter of time before one is announced for Brownsville or somewhere in Cameron County.

It’s just a matter of time before one is announced for Brownsville or somewhere in Cameron County. Why would they split their sales in two? They need Main Event to prove the market is there, long term, before bringing in D&B. Barely going on a year. Main Event does more $$ here than D&B. It's more hands on fun. pool, Bowling. Etc. D&B is mostly video games. Why are you surprised about Killeen? It's not much smaller than Brownsville - bigger, in population at least, over McAllen. With a military base with so many people, it makes sense.
