Was driving back from Weslaco for the first time this year and saw the pillars going up on the East side of the interchange and i'll say it, i was shocked to see that they start WAY before I Road where the old ones start much closer to 281. CRAZY!!! Headed north on 281 to see the progress coming south and it's a huge mess starting on Nolana on south. Pillars are indeed high and scary and start much further north too! Although I rarely drive through the interchange, it will be nice to see it completed. If you're referring to the construction by the basilica, they're doing braded ramps there (and also on the Jackson/Jackson exits in McAllen) Isn't that what we already had on westbound on ramp right before 281 and right after 281 to Sugar Rd? and again both on eastbound? They're just a little further away from the interchange?

Think southbound University exit over the on ramp from Schunior Rd

But I'm all for more off/on ramps.

But I'm all for more off/on ramps. Currently McColl Rd doesn't have an exit because it's too close to Jackson Ave. I think they're going to add a McColl exit to go over the on ramp just past the Jackson Ave/Frontage light.

They're extremely close to each other. wow. Meanwhile, they're taking away the Sugar Road overpass leaving a mile from Jackson to 281 w/o access to Sugar Road without going all the around adding even more traffic to Jackson and to 281.

I went to look at the schematics again just now. TDOT is also removing lots of exit and on ramps with this project. Traffic is going to be worse after the billions spent. What a waste. it looks like the on ramp after Jackson Ave. you're talking about is going away - forget adding an off ramp for McColl! www.txdot.gov/inside-txdot/get-involved/about/hearings-meetings/pharr/061418.html

I have a friend in media who went to the groundbreaking. Yeah it was just the same stuff that we already knew about from before (from what I was told).

Crazy - you'll need to head towards McAllen on the interchange to go EAST towards Weslaco and make a turn around at the now closed Sugar Road underpass. Lots of the little dividers on the new section are already knocked over and that's just with Mcallen bound traffic.. ooh boy, 8 months of this?? Traffic routes to change on Pharr Interchange Tuesday
By Staff Report -July 4, 2022
This graphic shows the new traffic route for drivers on the Pharr Interchange headed east. PHARR — Drivers on the Pharr Interchange traveling east toward Harlingen will be rerouted beginning Tuesday night as construction to expand the interchange continues. “The contractor working on the I-2/I-69C Interchange Project plans to close the existing ‘Edinburg to Harlingen’ direct connector and temporarily shift traffic onto the left lane of the new ‘Edinburg to McAllen’ connector,” the Texas Department of Transportation said in a news release last week. That means drivers will have to head west before heading east to their destinations. “With the new change, ‘Edinburg to Harlingen’ commuters will access the ‘Edinburg to McAllen’ connector on a dedicated lane toward McAllen, loop around at the Sugar Road underpass, and then merge onto eastbound I-2,” TxDOT officials said. The traffic shift is expected to be in place for approximately 8 months as construction crews remove the original single-lane connectors to Harlingen and McAllen and replace the Harlingen connector. There will be continuous movement on the new route and no traffic signals will be in place, officials said. Substantial completion of the $303 million dollar I-2/I-69C Interchange Project is expected in late 2023. Once completed, the interchange connectors will each accommodate two lanes of traffic and Interstate 2 will widen to 8 lanes, between 2nd Street in McAllen and Stewart Road in San Juan.
