It's about time. This event should've never been held exclusively in Hidalgo County only, but since Brownsville still doesn't have the facilities to host an event like this I can see why. I'm sure it will be a scaled-down version of the one in McAllen though. Harlingen does have the facilities to host this now though.

Winter Texans don't bring in much money to these types of events. They're all about the senior discounts and freebies. No hotel stays. Shared discounted meals and water at restaurants. It's been decades since the RGV was huge on winter Texans. Now, they're just sprinkles on top of dessert where before, every penny spent helped our economies.

Maybe the upcoming Hilton Garden conference center can help fill the gap? Not sure how big it will be though...

I think the right wing's constant fear mongering that we're over run with illegals in the streets, we can't go out at night, drugs and death around each corner helped to kill off a big chunk of winter Texans coming down here. The growth and traffic and loss of small town feels, took the rest. SPI is perfect for WT. Too bad they can't afford it.
