...at Harlingen's Valley International Airport. I wonder which airline it could be.

With all the announcements being made about Harlingen's airport, ie, American's new flight to Chicago and this, I believe Southwest is leaving Harlingen for Brownsville.

That said, my shot in the dark guess is that the new airline at HRL is probably Spirit. I say this because: - Spirit is a low-fare leisure airline, like Allegiant and Frontier (both serve the Valley).
- Spirit, like other airlines, is increasing focus on beach destinations right now (example: Spirit is launching service to Pensacola from Columbus, Indianapolis, St. Louis, Kansas City, etc), or other leisure destinations like Las Vegas.
- Most other airlines that are going to serve the Valley are already there.
- Probably not Alaska Airlines, since they joined Oneworld on 3.31.21 and can now funnel passengers to/from the Valley via American Airlines.
- Probably not JetBlue, as the Valley doesn't fit into their network model and the type of destination (e.g., Mostly east coast and a big focus on Florida).
- Probably not a Canadian carrier, as Canada is basically closed right now and a lot of Canada-US routes haven't resumed or have been pushed back further. Most leisure travel for the foreseeable future will be domestic, not international.
- Despite bullet 6, maybe a Mexican airline?
Honorable mentions: Breeze or Avelo, but they haven't launched yet so we don't know what their network could look like and if the Valley would even fit either airline's model. The other question is: What destination(s) would the new airline at HRL serve?

Brownsville and McAllen are far enough apart to exist financially. harlingen is the odd man out - 6th largest city in population in the RGV has nothing to offer someone flying into the valley except SPI, which is now better served by Brownsville's new airport. It's not even in a convenient location to get in and out of.(not near a highway).

VIA is stuck way in the back with no direct access. BRO will eventually be connected to I69E with East loop and closer to SPI and SpaceX. But all this is just speculation...

The only thing VIA might have going for it is IF the island gets a 2nd causeway and the RGV gets a second east-west highway from Edinburg to the Island they've been talking about for years. THEN, VIA is where it should be.
